You can’t get something for nothing. Or can you?

The App Store hosts a whole range of freebie games but the question is: are they all toss or are there any secret bargains amongst the bunch? In this two part article I’ll take the top ten free games (as of 08.03.10) and give them a run for their lack of money. Oh, and a toss-o-meter out of cabers only seems appropriate too.

..is like the death of a friend.

So there you are….It’s 10 minutes past midnight, some fox is getting raped outside and your sitting in front of your beloved PS3 just 7000 XP points away from “prestige-ing” on COD MW:2.

You’ve waited weeks for this moment and just as you are blitzing the last few seconds of Terminal…..*beep, beep, beeeeeeeeeeep* The little known, “Yellow Light Of Doom” (or YLOD for short) and your PS3 says it’s last goodbye with a whimpering succession of beeps. Basically the YLOD indicates a major hardware problem, causing the system to refuse booting up until the issue is fixed.

Top 10 Iconic Video Game Music - Part 2

Hey gang, I’m back to conclude the epic list of iconic music gifted to the world by video games. Last time I counted down from 10 to 6, and probably pissed off some people with a few left-field choices. Don’t worry though, the top 5 should leave everyone feeling warm and cosy inside, and is probably quite predictable.

The title is pretty self explanatory. Iconic music from iconic games. We all know em, and we all love (or hate) em. There have been so many amazing games with fantastic music over the years that this list was pretty hard to come up with. There are, of course, some no-brainers; but there are also more than a couple of spots that many of you might disagree with. There will be some inclusions and omissions that will no doubt spark debate and many calls of “hey jackass, you don’t know a damn thing about iconic video game music” from you lovely lovely readers.

I can only hope that your love for me is not ruined by any difference of opinions we may have. Especially you sexy console jockeys who may have missed a couple of the classics which never made it to a Nintendo, XBox or Playstation. PEACE!

Enjoy this run down of positions 10 to 6.

Piracy Today

February 4, 2010 Features Comments

Piracy is a big deal these days. Somalians have taken piracy to the next level by taking down boats and holding innocents for mass amounts of money. Pirates have recently been raiding our screens in the form of Johnny Deep’s swashbuckling ways. More soooo though, piracy of media is now on the rise so much that it has become a crime that brings with it a fine that is higher than GBH and Abduction. Only this week, did global hacker superstar George Hotz find a way to hack the PS3 so that it was possible play hacked games and also homebrew games. With all this in mind I want to take a look at piracy and how it is, or isn’t damaging the games market.

Genre Bender

February 1, 2010 Features Comments

Playing thatgamecompany’s Flower got the cogs in my skull whirring. Nothing too profound, a mere question in fact.

“What the cock am I actually playing here?”

Try to categorize Flower and you might come up with a completely new genre of game. Some might call it a puzzler but if locating flowers constitutes as a conundrum then I should be getting achievement points for using the kettle in the morning. [More]

Sweet sweet murder!

Sweet sweet murder!

So, in my last entry I discovered the origins of my character, so now what? Well, the main story starts rather slowly, but gives you a lot more background into the events happening in the world outside of your origin story. For someone that wants to get involved with the story this is fantastic, I have spent hours walking around a campsite talking to all the NPCs in turn to get the “full” story on the events unfolding. I can see that people who want to see immediate results in games really not enjoying this. It takes a large amount of investment and patience to reap enjoyment.

So, what have I been doing since last time, well I’m glad you asked…

15 Years of Playstation

Fifteen-Years-of-PS1

Everyones favourite tech demo dino.

Everyones favourite tech demo dino.

There must be something about the emergence of polygons that have made time move faster, or I’m getting much older and my perspective of time has changed (probable). It seems like yesterday when I was ready to do anything to get my hands on an Atari Jaguar, yes you hear it here. Wow, 64 whole bits! That’s 4 Mega Drives tapped together, seriously! Clearly my younger self had less of a hold on logic and a tighter grip on fantasy. Also, my ability to manipulate my parents was still developing, thus I had to wait months for Christmas and my Birthday (as they were and still are, close together) meaning I was in for the chance of a nice big present. But I had big dreams and they would keep me happy until that day when I could hold my Atari with pride.

Ferrets and XBOX’s

December 9, 2009 Features, Rants Comments

Ferret-Box

The inevitable occurred at approximately 11:23 on Friday the some date of December. My second, that’s right, second XBOX 360 decided to red ring. Not just any red ring, o no, it decided to whirr a little, then give me the false pretense that the red ring was some kind of sick practical joke and was going to work again, but then it decided to start smelling of electricity.

So I decided to set out and do some research to find out why the red ring of death actually occurs and to dismiss the old wives tale that it breaks due to ferrets in the operating system.

There's dragons in it!

There's dragons in it!

As a lover of Bioware’s Baldur’s Gate series, I have had my eye on Dragon Age for a little while. The fantasy setting, the storyline and interactions led by your choice of class, everything about it pulled me in. The only thing that stopped me from jumping straight in to the deep end was a title you may have heard of called Mass Effect. While this was an excellent game I was among those that felt it was a touch on the short side, completing the main story and a large majority over three days over a Christmas break. On hearing that the amount of time need to invest in DA:O was more on par with the Baldur’s Gate, it did not take much persuading to get me to jump into Dragon Age: Origins.

Usually I sit around in clothes, this however changes when I want to sit and play a game for the first time. It is not that I want to get up close and personal with the game and rub it on my ****, it’s that it is like this when I feel the most comfortable.

Just like Jamie Oliver called himself the Naked Chef, I am the Naked Gamer. It is a metaphor for the fact that I am being open and welcoming to any game. It is also to do with the fact that I am nude. But anyways,
