Sweet sweet murder!

Sweet sweet murder!

So, in my last entry I discovered the origins of my character, so now what? Well, the main story starts rather slowly, but gives you a lot more background into the events happening in the world outside of your origin story. For someone that wants to get involved with the story this is fantastic, I have spent hours walking around a campsite talking to all the NPCs in turn to get the “full” story on the events unfolding. I can see that people who want to see immediate results in games really not enjoying this. It takes a large amount of investment and patience to reap enjoyment.

So, what have I been doing since last time, well I’m glad you asked…

Well mostly poncing about campsites being cheeky to the NPCs, which is such fun. Once you have enlisted a few extra party members, they really do riff off each other very well. As well as the poncing, a few minor fetch quests and your ready for the main story to begin. Most games would just show you a nice FMV at the start and then dump you into the game, what I have really enjoyed about Dragon Age is that Bioware have let you start before this, create your own story and then play through the introduction.

The main story starts with a rather large bang and is very dramatic, leading to some rather large consequences for you. You play your parties role along with cut scenes of events happening around you, balancing gameplay well with information that could only really be give through film. The feel of this large event is very much of Lord of the Rings, a grand scale with lots of action happening from all sides.

Even after the events have unfolded, you can still converse with the characters, depending on how you approach the subject, you can gain or lose respect from them. Your popularity within the party has been approached in games before, but I am rather impressed with how it is tackled here. It seems that even the smallest action can warm a character towards you or get them in a tantrum. Accepting a quest from a villager may earn you respect from one but then have two others get annoyed at you for forcing their hand into actions they have no interest in.

Well, I best be off to complete more quests. I do wish I could tell you more about my adventuring, but I would not want to ruin any of the amazing story for you. Until next time…
